“Floodwaters have submerged 200 villages in Sherpur, affecting over 15,000 families. Rescue operations are underway in full swing.”
Severe flooding in Sherpur district has displaced thousands of residents as the Brahmaputra river continues to rise. According to the District Administration, 200 villages across four upazilas are currently underwater, with rescue efforts intensifying.
Local volunteers and members of the Bangladesh Army have been working tirelessly to evacuate stranded families to temporary shelters established on elevated grounds. Relief supplies, including dry food, clean drinking water, and medical aid, are being distributed by boat to cut-off communities.
"The situation is critical in the low-lying areas," said the Deputy Commissioner. "Our immediate priority is to ensure the safety of all residents and provide them with essential supplies until the waters recede."
